Velociraptor Awareness Day

April 11, 2010

Keeping with the true spirit of this blog, I found it very important to share something with you all. This Saturday, April 17th is Velociraptor Awareness Day. Yes, one of the rare but most important holidays that we all celebrate annually, dedicated to the spreading of safety tips and important knowledge about raptors and the deadly threat they pose to our everyday safety. In light of this important day, I plan to post a series of notices around the University of Calgary this week, including the following:

The most important warning anyone next to a window will ever receive.

How can you help the cause, you may ask? Well, while this warning label only applies to large windows, there are two others that can be used to mark balconies or stairwells for attack from above, and for ventilation and hiding places (Courtesy of my friend Brandon H); you should download those three files and post them wherever you see fit!

1: Velociraptor warning for large windows
2: Velociraptor warning for balconies and stairwells
3: Velociraptor warning for ventilation, utility access, and hiding places

In addition to papering your world with appropriate warnings (and perhaps posting pictures of them here, so we can all be proud of our contribution to safety), you can also join the Velociraptor Awareness Day event on Facebook, and spread the word to your friends.

Remember, raptor awareness is everyone’s responsibility.

Thanks for this! I will definitely be posting these around the Gauntlet office for sure.

Thankfully, there are other folks spreading the word about raptors, such as this fine blogger on witwar:
